Should I Use The Same Type Of Wood On My Floors As I Used On My Cabinets?

A common question people ask when replacing their floors in the kitchen is “Should I use the same type of wood on my floors as I used on my cabinets?”

The answer is as simple as the finish you put on the wood. You don’t want the cabinets and the floor to look like they are wrapping themselves in walls. Remember the floor is the floor but the cabinets are your furniture so they should express themselves differently.

Using different colors completely will create a nice look for your kitchen. For example, if your cabinets are cherry with a nutmeg finish then your floors could be cherry with a walnut finish, the contrast in color will bring elegance to your home.

If your floor has a interesting pattern then try not to go too crazy with your cabinets by keeping them simple. If your are not planning on changing your flooring and you are getting new cabinets you must take the floor into consideration.

Do not match the woods species and color of your cabinets to your floor exactly, different colors contrast well.
